President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the Senate will vote on whether to convict Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct allegations on Friday.
Trump tweeted that the vote will be “on Kavanaugh or no.”
“Just saw the final vote on Brett Kavanaugh,” Trump wrote.
“You have #CancelColbert.
You have to do it!”
The tweets came after the White House announced the appointment of a special counsel to investigate allegations that the Supreme Court justice sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl more than 30 years ago.
The move to appoint the special counsel was part of the White, House and Senate efforts to pressure Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to allow a vote on the nomination.
McConnell has said he will vote for Kavanaugh regardless of the allegations against him.
Republicans are set to hold a procedural vote to advance Kavanaugh’s nomination Friday.
